Anti-Idling Policy: Cleveland has enacted an anti-idling policy, which mandates that no City vehicle or piece of equipment be idled in a non-emergency situation.
Hybrid Vehicle Fleet: The City has updated its vehicle fleet with 60 hybrids, reducing the City’s fuel consumption and emissions.
Clean Fleet: The City of Cleveland has initiated a Biodiesel Pilot project, which will utilize a 20% blend of biodiesel in the fleet. A smooth trial is anticipated, which will include the option to purchase 20% biodiesel as part of the City’s future fuel contracts. The City of Cleveland, Cleveland City Council, and CPP are plug-in partners, supporting the development of plug-in hybrid vehicles. Plug-in hybrid vehicles can contribute to improvements in local air quality by reducing emissions caused by commuting and short distance trips.

The City of Cleveland is fortunate to be served by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, named the “best in public transit” in 2007, by the American Public Transportation Association. The City is working to expand alternative, low-carbon transportation options, by supporting the car share program CityWheels Cleveland in its application for CMAQ funding. This new, progressive program allows local residents and companies to become members of a car sharing program instead of purchasing vehicles.
