The Division of Water’s Information and Technology Section is accepting applications for a Database Administrator. This individual will assume a significant role as the Oracle Database Administrator responsible for multiple application databases. This position offers the opportunity to expand on your technical experience to complete complex tasks.

The Cleveland Division of Water is a municipal water utility operating under the City of Cleveland’s Department of Public Utilities. With a 640-square-mile service area that encompasses more than 1.5 million people throughout the City of Cleveland and 72 neighboring suburbs, the Division of Water is the largest water system in Ohio and among the ten largest in the United States.

The ideal candidate should possess the following competencies: Customer Focus, Teamwork, Analytical Thinking, and Responsibility/Accountability.

DUTIES:

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform database administration and maintenance functions in support of production, UAT and development environments.
  • Perform preventive database management, maintenance, and performance monitoring, tuning, and optimization.
  • Develop trend and analysis reports indicating database growth and load to anticipate storage, cpu and memory needs; develop maintenance programs and scripts; migrate databases as necessary; tune sql and initialization parameters.
  • Automation of routine database administration tasks.
  • Providing assistance to application development staff.
  • Data modeling – Develop physical data models as needed.
  • Develop environment specifications, benchmarking performance scenarios, and monitoring environments.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled environmental assessments and developing recommendations and corrective action plans based on the findings.
  • Maintain and Administer database security components.
  • Research new products, tools, methodologies, and standards related to all aspects of the database environment and its security, and make recommendations.
  • Oracle Applications Cloning, RMAN database duplications.
  • Managing Release Migrations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • An associate’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or related field from an accredited college, university or vocational school is required.
  • Two (2) years of full time paid experience supporting users in a network environment is required. Two (2) years full time experience may substitute for each year of education lacking.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • A valid Ohio Drivers license is required for this position.

PREFERENCES:

  • 8+ years continuous experience as a DBA in an Oracle / Windows environment with installations / upgrades of Oracle 8i, 9i, 10g.
  • 6+ years continuous experience as an Oracle Applications DBA in a lead role performing installation, upgrades, patching.
  • 5+ years continuous experience supporting 9i / 10g Oracle Application Servers.
  • Working knowledge of database backup/restore methodologies including: RMAN, hot and cold backups, export, import, standby, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work well both individually and within a team environment, and interacting with both technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Strong SQL and PL/SQL capabilities, including performance tuning experience.
  • Experience with application code repository tools.
  • Knowledge of different storage platforms such as NAS / SAN, raid levels.
  • Strong knowledge of logical and physical database design.
  • Ability to work effectively in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server is a plus.

DUTIES:

Under general supervision, coordinates the activities of the airport maintenance department. Prepares equipment specifications and maintenance contracts. Develops and monitors preventative maintenance contracts. Develops and monitors preventive maintenance programs for airport vehicles and equipment. Reviews monthly vehicle reports. Orders maintenance equipment and supplies. Coordinates maintenance department activities with outside contractors and City personnel. Assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Implements snow removal plan and directs snow removal operations. Assists in field and facility preparations for special events. Oversees summer youth programs and temporary personnel hiring. Serves as a representative of the division as requested. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must successfully complete a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check and employment background check.
  2. Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  2. Seven years of full time paid airport experience, at least two of which shall have been in field and building maintenance in a supervisory capacity is required.
  3. Above average mechanical aptitude.
  4. The ability to communicate effectively, leadership qualities.
  5. Contract preparation knowledge and clerical skills preferred.
  6. A valid State of Ohio Driver’s License is required.
  7. Must be able to work weekends, holidays and off shifts, split shifts—2nd and 3rd and or may alter.

The City of Cleveland, Ohio, Department of Public Service, Division of Engineering and Construction, is seeking a highly competent professional with proven managerial, administrative and technical skills. The qualified applicant will have primary responsibilities for the operation of the Division of Engineering and Construction within the Department of Public Service. Duties include oversight of major road and bridge construction; preparation of designs, plans and specifications; preparation of operating and capital budgets; management of the City’s right of way, by maintaining all land records and monumentation, conducting sidewalk compliance and pavement management programs, processing street vacations, land assemblies, encroachment permits and licenses, operate maintain and inspect 6 mechanical and 126 fixed bridges and culverts. The position reports to the Director of Public Service.

DUTIES:

The highly motivated and results oriented professional who is offered this position will administer a $5 million operating budget and oversee 70 employees and $150 million in capital expenditures.

REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 10 years experience in a relevant business or public sector environment including 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering, public works, planning, public administration and must possess a State of Ohio registration as a Professional Engineer or be able to obtain Ohio registration within 6 months of hire. The successful candidate should have an understanding of sustainable design of roads and bridges. Strong leadership abilities, excellent communication and organizational skills are essential.
