Director Angel A. Guzman joined the Jackson Administration in February 2006 and is responsible for the administration and operations of the Department of Consumer Affairs, which enforces all provisions of the Consumer Protection Act of the City of Cleveland. He and his staff ensure the protection of Cleveland citizens from fraudulent and unfair business practices, including predatory loans.
Prior to joining the City of Cleveland, Guzman served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Hispanic Business and Community Development Corporation and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for Ohio. He has more than 25 years of public service as an administrator at many agencies throughout the greater Cleveland area.
Guzman is an active member of the community and has served on many Boards and Commissions in the City of Cleveland and in the state of Ohio. He is currently a member of the Great Lakes Science Center Board of Directors and was a member of the Greater Cleveland Roundtable. He has served as Chairman of the Ohio Commission on Spanish Speaking Affairs and has received the Hispanic Ohioan of the Year Award. Further, he was appointed by Governor Taft to The Commission of Minority Business Enterprises.
Guzman received his bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University in Arts. He furthered his studies at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
A native of Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, Guzman came to Cleveland at age five. He is a member of La Sagrada Familia Parish and the Knights of Columbus, and he has two sons, Angel II and Carlos.
