| Jane E. Fumich Department of Aging
Jane E. Fumich, Director of the Cleveland Department of Aging is committed to serving the fastest growing segment of the population, the elderly. Jane has been an advocate and a major player in issues affecting both the City’s and Cuyahoga County’s older residents for the length of her career. Prior to joining the City as Director of the Department of Aging in February of 2002, Jane served as Director of the Cuyahoga County Department of Senior and Adult Services (DSAS) from November of 1999 to February of 2002. From 1992 -1998, Jane served as DSAS Manager of Community Programs, overseeing Adult Protective Services, the Community Office on Aging, and the Mental Health Unit. While employed with Cuyahoga County, Jane launched a number of vital programs, such as the Grand-Caring Connection, which provides information and referral services to grandparents raising grandchildren; the annual County Conference on Aging, and the national award winning Safety and Crime Awareness Training (SCAT) for Elders Program, among others. Jane worked closely with the Office of Homeless Services to secure shelter sites and funds for the community to provide needed services to the homeless population. Since joining the Department of Aging, Jane secured funds for the development of the first Strategic Plan for the Department; has expanded the Department’s Chore Program to serve more seniors; developed the Cleveland Care Calls Program, an automated telephone reassurance system for Cleveland seniors; implemented Benefits Checkup, a computerized screening system to help seniors determine their eligibility for local, state and federal assistance programs; worked with community partners to establish the Senior Guest House for elders in crises or unsafe conditions; collaborated with the Boy Scouts to establish Yard Charge, an annual leaf raking program for Cleveland seniors; in collaboration with the Applied Gerontology Center of Cuyahoga Community College established the Cleveland Senior Summer College, a life long learning opportunity for Cleveland seniors; and Jane serves as Co-Chair of the Greater Cleveland Access to Benefits Coalition, established to help low-income Medicare beneficiaries secure savings on prescription drugs. Jane resides in Ward 11 with her 21 year old daughter Amber, who is an Art Education Major at Kent State University. She holds a Masters in Gerontological Studies from Miami University, Scripps Gerontology Center, Oxford, Ohio. If you can't see the button above |
