The Department represents and counsels the Mayor, the City Council, and all other City departments and commissions in their good work. The Department also fights for the City's quality of life by prosecuting crimes in the municipal and housing courts.

Chief Assistant Prosecutor
Victor R. Perez

First Assistant Prosecutor
Kimberly G. Barnett

The Criminal Division, also known as the "City Prosecutors' Office," prosecutes quality-of-life crimes including domestic violence, assault, traffic offenses, and theft.

Prosecutors review and file felony charges or recommend review by a county grand jury. Prosecutors also review police use of deadly force and internal investigations to determine whether prosecution is appropriate.

Mediators in the Criminal Division mediate disputes between citizens to prevent those disputes from ripening into criminal activity.

Claim Division - (216)664-2671 or (216)664-2859

Most of the claims handled by this section are from traffic accidents, road repairs and other construction, and the city's utilities operations. The claims unit investigates and evaluates all claims to determine the extent of the City's liability, if any, and the injury or damage incurred by the claimant.
