The Division of Traffic Engineering is charged with
the planning and geometric design of streets, highways and abutting
lands - particularly as related to safe and efficient traffic
operation.
The Division is responsible for the erection and
maintenance of all traffic control devices; preparation of drawings,
standards and specifications; the determination and layout of
parking restrictions; and the design and placement of pavement
markings, traffic signs and traffic control devices.
The Division is committed to improving the safety
and flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic by implementing various
traffic signalization projects. These projects are upgrades of
the City's traffic signal systems, which includes but is not limited
to, installation of electronic controller, mask arms, loop detector,
signals and signage. These systems are designed to improve traffic
safety, traffic flow, and the overall aesthetic of our neighborhood
and commercial areas. The Division's Traffic Engineers also review
and approve all sign changes to al roadway projects.
MISSION
To improve traffic safety, promote the efficient
movement of traffic and pursue proper traffic planning and development.
PROGRAM NAME: ENGINEERING
OBJECTIVE:
- To investigate requests for changes in traffic
control devices - signing, marking, signals, etc.; research
engineering and follow-up relative to installation maintenance,
review and updating of traffic signal systems; traffic design
of street improvements.
ACTIVITY:
- Perform traffic engineering studies and provide
an ongoing evaluation of traffic flow and conditions.
- Evaluate requests and prepare work orders for
installation of traffic control devices.
- Follow-up studies and review of installations.
PROGRAM NAME: TRAFFIC SIGNING
AND STREET MARKING
OBJECTIVE:
- To fabricate, install, maintain and replace traffic,
parking and miscellaneous signing; paint traffic markings on
city streets, as well as fabricate and install special signing
and graphics for other city organizations in a timely manner.
ACTIVITY:
- Fabricate, install, remove and replace signs.
- Mark center and lane lines, crosswalks and pavement
arrows.
- Provide markings at various city installations.
- Select projects and prepare proposals for plan
development related to federally funded projects.
PROGRAM NAME: TRAFFIC SIGNALS
OBJECTIVE:
- To install, maintain, and repair traffic signals
and all related aspects in a timely manner with the construction
of new and revised installations to be within 3 or 4 months
of being current and complete repair work within 2 months for
non-emergency items and immediately for emergencies.
ACTIVITY:
- Install and modernize signal equipment.
- Maintain and repair signal equipment.
- Conduct the Preventive Maintenance Program, i.e.,
signals relamped, controllers serviced.
