Waste Collection & Disposal

This division provides weekly collection of waste from 190,000 Cleveland homes, the West Side Market, Fire and Police Stations, the Justice Center, City Hall and other City buildings, and public areas. It also places dumpsters at neighborhood events and community functions and plays an active role in special cleanup programs. Dumpsters are also available for commercial accounts and homeowners.

Recycling and Waste Disposal

The Recycling and Waste Disposal Guide gives options for year-round disposal of most items.

Cleveland's recycling program grows larger every year. Working in partnership with the Cuyahoga County Waste District, the City holds several annual recycling roundups for computers, household hazardous materials, phone books and scrap tires.

The City recycles Christmas trees and distributes free mulch to residents in the Spring. Input from residents is encouraged.

Residents do not have to sort or bundle items for recycling at city-wide drop sites, and do not have to use blue bags. Those residents who are participating in the new collection pilot program can recycle curbside.

Community Presentations and Events

The City of Cleveland will deliver in-school and/or community on-site general recycling and litter prevention presentations to community groups such as block clubs, friends groups, neighborhood organizations, schools, family groups, etc. The contact number for scheduling presentations is 216.664.2156.

Residential Waste Collection and Ordinances

Residential collection days are indicated on the pick-up map. Holidays which affect weekly residential pick-up are indicated on the holiday waste pick-up schedule.

The City of Cleveland enforces waste collection rules and regulations, according to City ordinances which address waste collection and disposal and littering.
