BARE OR BEAR

Bare - adjective

    1. Naked: The picture showed the baby's bare bottom.
    2. Unconcealed, exposed: I moved the bush and bared the entrance to the cave.
    3. Empty: The cupboard was bare.
    4. Leaving nothing to spare; mere: We have barely enough paint to finish painting the room.
    5. Plain, unadorned: The walls were bare, there were no paintings on them.

Bare - verb

    1. to make or lay bare: The woman bared her soul, she told her story to all in the room.

     

Bear - noun

    1. A large heavy mammal with shaggy hair and a very short tail: The bear has a sad look on it's face.
    2. A surly uncouth person: The man doing all that shouting is a bear.
    3. One who sells securities and commodities in expectation of a price decline: It was a Bear Market and the man wanted to sell his stock before the price dropped any further.

     

Bear - verb (Bore, Born, Borne, Bearing)

  1. Carry: Will you bear this box with me? I come bearing gifts.
  2. To be equipped with: The climber bore boots for good footing.
  3. To give witness to: Bear witness to the facts in the case.
  4. To give birth to; produce or yield: See that tree, it bears fruit every year. Her eyes sparkled as she began to bear an idea.
  5. Endure, sustain; to exert pressure or influence: Sometimes you have to bear with the pain. You sure know how to bear the pressure.
  6. To be or become directed: To get there bear to the left.
