| Cleveland, February 02, 2006 -- Mayor Frank G. Jackson will swear in four new members of his administration this morning at 10:30 AM in the Red Room of Cleveland City Hall.
Angel Guzman will be sworn in as Director of Consumer Affairs.
Angel A. Guzman served as the CEO of the Hispanic Business Association/Hispanic Business and Community Development Corporation where he was responsible for all operations and development programs. Prior to, he worked as the Budget Analyst for the Planning Department of the Council For Economic Opportunities. Angel also served in the United States Army. He is a graduate of Cleveland State University and attended Cleveland Marshall School of Law. Angel currently serves on the Board of the Great Lakes Science Center.
Michael E. Cox will be sworn in as Interim Director of Parks, Recreation and Properties.
Michael E. Cox, Sr. began his career with the city of Cleveland in 1972. He has served in several positions during his tenure with the city, including Sidewalk Inspector, Chief Sidewalk Inspector, and Superintendent of Sidewalks. Michael started in Parks, Recreation and Properties in 1995 as the Commissioner of Parking and has served in the capacity of Assistant Director and Acting Director of Parks as well as his current position of Commissioner of Recreation. In April, he will celebrate his 34th year as an employee of the city of Cleveland.
Antionette Thompson will be sworn in as Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation and Properties. Antionette Thompson has served the city of Cleveland for over 20 years, beginning as an Examiner with the Civil Service Commission. In 1987 she moved to the Division of Recreation as a Deputy Project Director. After serving ten years with the Division of Recreation, Antionette spent two years serving the Division of Water before she became the Deputy Commissioner for the Division of Park Maintenance and Properties. In 2003, she returned to the Department of Parks, Recreation and Properties as Assistant Director, was sworn in as Director in September 2005, and has been Interim Director under Mayor Jackson. Antionette is a graduate of Glenville High School and Ohio University.
Kim Johnson will be sworn in as Interim Commissioner of Recreation. Kim Johnson joined the City of Cleveland in 1993 as a Fiscal Manager for the Convention Center. In 1995 she was promoted to the position of Special Project Manager for the Director of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Properties. In 1997, Kim was promoted to Deputy Commissioner for the Division of Recreation. As Deputy Commissioner in charge of administration, she has been responsible for the Division's budget, legislation, purchasing, personnel, contracts, golf courses, special projects, and administration over the Cities Summer Food Program.
