Carnegie Avenue Detour to be Extended for Road Construction

The construction zone on Carnegie Avenue will be extended from East 22nd Street to East 9th Street beginning Wednesday evening May 31st for work to begin on Thursday, June 1st. Westbound traffic will be detoured to Prospect Avenue between E. 46th Street to E. 9th Street. Eastbound Carnegie traffic will be maintained. On Friday evening June 9th, at 9:00 p.m., weather permitting, Carnegie Avenue will be closed to all traffic except safety vehicles from East 9th Street to East 22nd Street so construction crews can complete resurfacing in this section. On Monday, June 12th all lanes will be reopened to traffic in each direction between East 9th Street and East 22nd Street. Traffic will continue eastbound only from East 22nd Street to Prospect Avenue while construction continues on the south side of Carnegie Avenue.

  • This $3.8 million project involves resurfacing Carnegie Avenue from East 9th Street to Cedar Avenue. The project includes removing and replacing the asphalt road surface and replacing curb, sidewalk, driveway aprons, and catch basins, as necessary.

  • The entire project is scheduled for completion by December 2006.
