October Dance Fest

This program celebrates young people aged 8 to 17 who are skilled in a variety of dance styles including ballet, tap, modern, jazz, hip-hop, and African. This program is presented in the historic Little Theater at the Cleveland Convention Center.

Mural My Neighborhood

Each summer this program teams young Cleveland artists with professional muralists, community leaders, and business owners to create beautiful, uplifting murals depicting civic pride, vibrant city life, and visions of hope in specific neighborhoods. Young artists are required to interview with a parent and will be expected to show examples of their work. Those selected who complete the program receive $150 stipends. Although the program runs from February through mid-August, interviews are conducted year-round. -more

Excellence Through the Arts Program

This program is grant funded.  Various types of dance classes are offered and include ballet, modern, tap, and African.  Since different classes are held at several locations, interested participants should call the Bureau of Cultural Arts to find out where the class they would like to take is being presented.

This program provides Cleveland residents with the opportunity to display their artistic talents in several different mediums in a professional setting. This collaborative effort between the City of Cleveland Division of Recreation and The National Arts Program ® showcases the work of Cleveland artists of all ages, backgrounds and levels of expertise.

Local artists compete for cash prizes and continuing education scholarships. The exhibit is judged by visual art professionals in Amateur, Intermediate, Professional and Youth classifications. There are no jury or exhibition fees for this show, and viewing is free to the public.

 Showagon

Youth who dance, sing, act and perform poetry form a summer  performing art troupe that appears on a mobile stage unit from early June through August.

Youth between the ages of 5 and 17 audition annually in May.  Hopeful participants must bring their own music to the audition.  The Division of Recreation provides voice instructors and choreographers to enhance talent.

Youth Talent Showcase

The Talent Showcase features talented, trained youth ages 9 to 17 with previous performance experience in three categories: dancing, singing and variety. There is no open audition for this program, as acts are invited to perform based on the diversity they bring to the program and on prior performance experience. The show is emceed by two teenagers and presented annually in May in the historic Little Theater at the Cleveland Convention Center.

Holiday Play

The Holiday Play is a fun-filled opportunity for newcomers as well as experienced thespians. Singing, acting and dancing are presented on the stage of the historic Little Theater at the Cleveland Convention Center. Interested youth ages 5 to 18 audition in early October. The annual show takes place during the latter part of December.
