Overview
The City Planning Commission is charged with planning for a future where the City of Cleveland is a thriving urban community, resilient in the face of changing regional, national, and global conditions.
Our mission is to advocate for the preservation and establishment of prosperous communities that are authentic and diverse, providing equitable access to the resources necessary for both current and future generations of residents to thrive.
We accomplish this by:
- Enhancing both physical development and the built environment
- Preserving the City’s history through districts that are architecturally and culturally significant
- Creating places for people that are healthy, sustainable, and vibrant
Boards & Commissions
In addition to the City Planning Commission, the City is served by three (3) other boards and commissions:
- Board of Building Standards and Building Appeals (link to Board’s page)
- Responsible for hearing appeals regarding building requirements, including orders made by City officials
- Board of Zoning Appeals (link to Board’s page)
- Responsible for hearing appeals regarding land use, including orders made by City officials
- Landmarks Commission (link to Commission’s)
- Encourages the preservation of historically and architecturally significant buildings and historic districts
